abstract A wood protection composition comprising whey saponified with an alkali. The saponification may be carried out using caustic soda solution or sodium carbonate. In particular, diluted whey is used. The wood protection composition is suitable primarily for the treatment of wood shavings for use as insulating material in building construction. A method of manufacturing a wood protection composition according to the present invention is also disclosed.
