The invention describes a method and composition for treating infections caused by HIV and the hepatitis B virus in humans and comprising the administration of an effective dose of 2-hydroxymethyl-5- (5- fluorocytosine-1-yl) -1,3-oxathiolane, of a pharmaceutically acceptable derivative thereof, including a 5 'or N4 alkylated or acylated derivative, or of a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, contained in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The invention also describes a method of solving a racemic mixture of enantiomers of nucleosides, comprising the step of exposing said racemic mixture to an enzyme which preferably catalyzes a reaction in one of the enantiomers. |
