titleOfInvention | Laser systems |
abstract | Apparatus intended to improve the properties of a solid material by applying shock waves to this material. A laser oscillator (10a) produces a number of pulses (112) of coherent radiation. The leading edge of each pulse is refined either by a metallic foil (18) or by a phase reflection-conjugation device (18a, 18th) comprising a Brillouin stimulated diffusion cell (18d, 18th) and, optionally, a Faraday insulator (18b). Each pulse is directed to an amplifier (123) comprising first and second laser amplifier bars (23a, 23b) in series. At least one main radiation sector (112) amplified by the first amplification bar (23a) is directed on the second amplification bar (23b), or it is amplified and then directed on the surface of the solid material. A uniform spatial amplitude of the radiation (112) is obtained according to, at a minimum, one of the following procedures: a pair of flash lamps (70, 71) is included in each laser amplification bar (23a, 23b) for pumping in said bar; the axis of each strobe lamp (70, 71) and the axis of the first bar (23a) are practically parallel and lie practically in the same foreground; a (second) plane in which is inscribed the axis of the second bar (23b) and the parallel axes of these associated flashlights (70, 71) is essentially perpendicular to the first plane; and / or the oscillator (10c) produces a coherent non-polarized radiation (12T) whose spatial amplitude characteristics of each successive pulse are essentially a faithful image of the characteristics of the pulse having preceded it, or else this element pivots around its axis by describing a predetermined angle smaller than that of the characteristics of the previous pulse. |
