A NOVEL INTEGRIN SPECIFICITY FOR THE HIV Tat PROTEIN |
abstract |
The invention relates to the Tat proteins of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and to the integrin cell surface receptor which specifically recognizes the Tat protein of HIV. Integrin is a heterodimer containing an alphav subunit and one or more beta subunits such as the alphavbeta5 complex derived from human cells and the alphavbeta8 complex derived from rat cells. The invention further relates to reactive fragments comprising sequences which correspond to the binding regions of the Tat protein of HIV and to the integrins binding to the Tat protein. Methods for regulating the binding of the Tat protein of HIV to cells expressing these integrins are also described. |
