N-aralkyl and N-heteroaralkylaminoalkanephosphinic acids of the formula I. in which R is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, cycloaliphatic-aliphatic, araliphatic or heteroarylaliphatic radical having at least 2 carbon atoms, R 1 is hydrogen or hydroxy, R 2 is an araliphatic or heteroarylaliphatic radical which is bonded by directly or via a spacer and optionally functionally modified carboxy and R 3 represents hydrogen, lower alkyl or a group R 2 , and their salts have valuable nootropic and antiepileptic properties and can be used to prepare a nootropic or antiepileptic drug. |
