abstract The present invention relates to recombinant live attenuated bacterial strains expressing O-serotype determinants of gram-negative enteric pathogens in a form covalently bound to a lipopolysaccharide (LPS) core, wherein the resulting LPS molecules are essentially indistinguishable from the ones present in the original pathogenic strains. Such recombinant carrier strains may be used as live vaccines for oral immunization against e.g. bacillary dysentery caused by virulent strains of Shigella spp.
