abstract |
The present invention relates to novel bifunctional inhibitors of both platelet activation and thrombin. These bifunctional inhibitors are characterized by two domains: a glycoprotein IIb / IIIa inhibition domain and a thrombin inhibition domain. The invention also relates to DNA sequences which code for the bifunctional inhibitors of the invention, recombinant DNA molecules which contain these DNA sequences and hosts transformed using these molecules. DNA. The invention further relates to the recombinant expression of these bifunctional inhibitors by transformed hosts as well as to methods of purifying such bifunctional recombination inhibitors. The invention also describes compositions and methods using these novel bifunctional inhibitors alone or in combination with a fibrinolytic agent. Such compositions can be useful in the treatment of thrombotic diseases, to increase reocclusion time, decrease reperfusion time, simultaneously inhibit thrombin and platelet-mediated functions and inhibit the growth of malignant cells. |
