The invention also relates to an assay material used to determine whether a patient has been exposed to or affected by Borrelia burgdorferi. The equipment contains the reagents necessary for the implementation of the assay process. In its most general form the material includes an inoculum of viable Borrelia burgdorferi organisms. The material may also contain an aliquot of normal serum, an aliquot of BSK medium and / or an aliquot of complement.
