abstract | Method for quantitative determination of aldoses, in particular xylose. According to this process, the aldose is transformed by enzymatic oxidation in the corresponding aldonolactone using an aldose-dehydrogenase and in the presence of an electron acceptor. The amount of the reduced electron acceptor is determined based on the amount of aldose. The method uses a PQQ-linked aldose dehydrogenase enzyme to oxidize aldose. Preferably, the enzyme is obtained from strains of the genus Gluconobacter. A method has also been provided for determining the monomeric aldose units of the oligomeric sugars. By immobilizing the aldose dehydrogenase enzyme on an electrode, a biologic aldose sensor is obtained which can be used in electrochemical methods for determining aldoses. |
