abstract Certain wavelengths selected in the near infrared spectra make it possible to analyze the percentage by weight, the percentage by volume, even the molar percentage of each component of a fuel mixture, such as the PIANO components (paraffin, isoparaffin , aromatics, naphthalenes and olefins), as well as the octane number (preferably the "research" octane number, the motor or pump octane number) and the percentage of various hydrocarbons, such as alphaolefins . The analysis can be an almost continuous online or line analysis, as well as a batch analysis, in particular in a quality control laboratory. The near infrared data is preferably converted into a second derivative of the spectra and into a multiple linear regression performed to obtain a model of the concentrations of the individual PIANO components, as well as to predict the physical properties of the components of the fuel mixture, such as that the "research" octane number of the reformate, etc.
