abstract |
A thin film composite ultrafiltration membrane having desired properties and characteristics can be prepared by casting a solution formed from a polyelectrolyte complex onto a microporous support to form a thin film of polyelectrolyte complex on the surface of the support. The thickness of the membrane of the polyelectrolyte complex is between approximately 600 and 3000 Å. This membrane can then be used to separate low molecular weight solutes, for example to separate glucose from sucrose and higher molecular weight sugars. |
