titleOfInvention | A high productivity, continuous fermentation process for carotenoid-producing microorganisms |
abstract | A high-yield process for effectively fermenting heterotrophic algae, comprising in particular the dilution of the fermentation broth. A source of carbon for the growth of microorganisms is limited so as to restrict the growth rate to a level below the maximum rate. This process is particularly useful for the fermentation of Neospongiococcum algae. In preferred embodiments, the temperature of the fermentation broth is maintained between 30 ° C and about 38 ° C and the pH of the fermentation broth is maintained between about 5.5 and about 6.5. With this process, the volumetric productivity was increased in total by at least 20 mg of xanthophylls per liter per hour. |
