titleOfInvention | A composition and method for simultaneous absorption of sulfur dioxide and nitric oxide |
abstract | It is possible to simultaneously reduce the amounts of NO and SO2 present in flue gases by means of an absorption process and apparatus using an absorbent composition comprising an aqueous solution of chelates and sulfite salt intended to reduce the amounts of NO and amino SO2 absorbents such as piperazinones, morpholinones, piperidines, piperazines, piperazinediones, hydantoins, triazinones, pyrimidinones, oxazolidones, etc., intended to reduce the amounts of SO2. The SO2 is thermally extracted from the used absorbent and is then recovered. Metal chelates oxidized to an inactive state as a side reaction are electrochemically reduced. An anion exchange membrane located in the electrochemical cell regenerates products derived from thermostable amino salts to be reconverted into usable amino sorbent, and it facilitates the extraction of other residual salts from the absorbent solution. |
