HUMANE GAMMA INTERFERON ANTAGONISTS. |
abstract |
New synthetic polypeptides possessing amino acid sequences corresponding to the sequence of one or more specific regions of human gamma interferon. These polypeptides specifically inhibit the binding of human gamma interferon to cellular receptors, as well as the biological activity of such interferon. Also disclosed are anticorpal antagonists of the binding of human gamma interferon to cellular receptors, based on the use of polypeptides as antigens. Some of these antagonists bind to specific regions of interferon gamma which are thought to play a role in interactions between interferon and its receptors. Other anticorpal antagonists are anti-idiotypic antibodies which appear to compete directly with gamma interferon for binding to cellular receptors. Also disclosed are methods for employing the polypeptides and antibodies as inhibitors of the binding of interferon gamma to its cellular receptors. |
