titleOfInvention Process for decontamination of radioactive materials
abstract A process for decontaminating material containing a radioactive contaminant, comprises the steps of: (a) contacting the material with a dilute, basic carbonate solution, whereby the contaminant is dissolved; (b) separating the resultant composition containing the dissolved contaminant from the material; and (c) recovering the dissolved contaminant from the separated composition. By way of example, the solution contains about 0.03M ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, about 0.06M carbonate, about 3 g/l hydrogen peroxide, and sodium hydroxide.
