Process for the preparation of alkenols of formula I. R¹-CH = CH (CH₂) n OH I in which R¹ is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical and the index n is an integer from 3 to 15, a) by reacting a phosphonium salt of the formula IIa R¹-CH₂-P⁺ (C₆H₅) ₃ X⁻ IIa in which X represents chlorine, bromine and iodine, with an aldehyde of the formula IIIa or its hemiacetal of the formula IIIb or b) by reacting a phosphonium salt of the formula IIb (C₆H₅) ₃P⁺ (CH₂) n + 1 OH X⁻ IIb with an aldehyde of formula IV R¹CHO IV in a solvent in the presence of a base, characterized in that the alkali metal salt of an alcohol is used as the base and an alcohol is used as the solvent. |
