The invention describes methods for diagnosing pre-hypertension, hypertension, congestive cardiomyopathy, renal dysfunction, salt sensitivity, adenomas and hyperplasia of endocrine cells. The invention also describes methods of controlling therapies for hypertension, congestive cardiomyopathy, renal dysfunction, adenomas, and endocrine cell hyperplasia. These methods involve the use of an antibody with specific binding to ouabain to perform an immunological measurement of the level of human ouabain in the fluid or body tissue of a subject. In addition, the invention describes methods of treating a hypertensive patient, comprising inducing active or passive immunity to human ouabain in said patient, as well as an antibody having specificity of binding to ouabain. |
