titleOfInvention | Soluble melanin |
abstract | Melanin soluble in an aqueous solution at a pH between 5 and 9 at least, at a temperature between 0 and 100 ° C. Said melanin is further characterized in that it can be filtered by means of a filter of at least 0.45 microns. It is also characterized by its molecular weight greater than 10,000 kilodaltons. Melanin is used to produce a natural tanned color on the epidermis and hair growth of mammals. Said melanin can be produced by the combination of dopachrome and 5,6-dihydroxyindole (or by causing spontaneous formation of 5,6-dihydroxyindole by dopachrome) with an appropriate enzyme or by the combination of 5 , 6-dihydroxyindole and 5,6-dihydroxyindole-2-carboxylic acid or by means of the incubation of 5,6-dihydroxyindole-2-carboxylic acid alone. Melanin is also used to form a sunscreen for the epidermis and hair growth of mammals, to treat hyperpigmentation or post-inflammatory hypopigmentation, to tint glass and plastic, to protect industrial materials against ultraviolet rays and as a coloring agent for food products such as coffee, tea, sodas, whiskey and liqueurs. |
