abstract |
Genes encoding class II EPSPS enzymes. The genes are useful in the production of bacteria and transformed plants which tolerate the herbicide glyphosate. Class II EPSPS genes have very little homology with known class I EPSPS genes, and they do not hybridize with probes from class I EPSPS. Class II EPSPS enzymes are characterized by greater kinetic efficiency than class I EPSPS in the presence of glyphosate. The invention also relates to plants transformed using EPSPS class II genes as well as a method of selective weed control in a crop field. |
