abstract An inhaler without propellant gas includes a supply of the medical substance to be inhaled, a manually operated metering device which allows a predetermined dose of the medical substance to be withdrawn during each inhalation and a mouthpiece through which one can actively inhale, as well as a chamber air in which the dose of medical substance is distributed in an air stream. It is important, in the case of these inhalers, to obtain a reliable reproducibility of the dose of the medical substance to be inhaled. In order to solve this problem, a retaining device contains, unlike known embodiments, a reserve of medical substance not in powder form but in the form of a predetermined consolidated geometric structure (tablet). An abrasive mechanism which rubs off the predetermined dose is associated with the retainer.
