abstract A method of comparing the sensed ST segment of an electrocardiogram with a stored template, for differences therebetween and providing a signal when the differences reach predetermined values, characterised in that the stored template is provided by using an implanted pacemaker to sense initial electrocardiogram signal information representative of the ST segment of an electrocardiogram and storing the information in the pacemaker, or an external programmer as said template, and subsequently using the pacemaker to sense information representative of the ST segment of an electrocardiogram for comparison with said template. The invention also resides in apparatus for carrying out the method.
