titleOfInvention Method for repairing a mold for continuous casting of steel
abstract The invention relates to the repair of one-piece copper moulds 6 for the continuous casting of steel which have become unusable due to wear. The removal of the inner sides to the depth of the wear is known. However, as a result the mould (6) becomes thinner than before until, finally, it can no longer be used for thermal reasons and for reasons of strength. The invention restores all the original dimensions of the mould 6 by a process in which, first of all, the outer sides of the mould are coated with copper, a mandrel defining the inside dimension 2 of the mould 6 is inserted into the mould 6 and the latter is then drawn through a die so that its inner side rests against the mandrel and its length increases 5, the inside dimension 2 and the outside dimension 1 corresponding to the original dimensions. The mould is then shortened in length, thus reestablishing the length dimension as well. <IMAGE>
