abstract A garbage bag or bag (1) is described, which is held open by an elastic band attached thereto. Preferably, the elastic is located on each side of at least one lateral fold (2), in an unstretched state, so as to pass over the lateral fold (2). When the top of the bag is folded over the edge of a container (Fig. 2), the elastic (5) is stretched over the outer side of the container. This arrangement allows the bag (1) to be folded flat while still allowing it to be kept open in use. The elastic (5) can be used as a closure means after using the bag.
