abstract |
A method of obtaining monosialoganglioside (GM1) from an aqueous solution containing a mixture of gangliosides, involves incubating the solution at a pH of from 5 to 6.5 in the presence of an neuroaminidase so as to hydrolyse di-, tri- and tetra- sialogangliosides therein to enrich the GM1 content of the mixture. The resultant solution is dried, the residue re-dissolved in a mixture of chloroform, methanol and water and is then subjected to exclusion chromatography. The appropriate fractions are collected and lyophilized. |
