Antibody-mediated cofactor-driven reactions |
abstract |
Chemical reactions, the development rate of which can be increased by using auxiliary species which interact with the reactants but which do not chemically bond to them during the formation of the final product, are carried out according to the present invention in the presence of antibodies that promote these reactions. Antibodies have regions within their antigen binding sites that recognize helper species in a reaction-promoting conformation. The antigen binding site frequently recognizes a particular transition state complex or any other complex of high energy along the coordinate of the reaction, which promotes the development of the reaction in the desired direction as opposed to other directions less favorable. Various classes of reactions in conjunction with specificities of suitable antigen binding sites, particularly suited to each of them, are also described. |
