titleOfInvention | Diagnostic compositions for assessment of pancreatic insufficiency |
abstract | The compositions comprise a fluorescein fatty ester and a non-toxic substance which is not broken down in the stomach eg. a saccharide. Emulsions containing a fluorescein fatty ester are also disclosed. In an example, fluorescein dilaurate is dissolved in coconut oil and converted into an oil-in-water emulsion in the presence of a mannitol. The composition is administered orally. Fluorescein and mannitol are excreted in the urine. The ratio of recovered fluorescein and mannitol allows for the detection of pancreatic insufficiency without the need for control experiments. |
