titleOfInvention | FLAME RESISTANT ALKENYLAROMATIC FOAMS. |
abstract | Process for improving the flame retardant properties of a thermoplastic foam by adding to 100 parts by weight of at least one alkenylaromatic thermoplastic material, before extrusion into a foam, from 0.2 to 2 parts by weight of bromine provided by at least a first brominated organic compound of at least one brominated aliphatic compound and 0.5 to 3 parts by weight of bromine provided by at least one second different brominated organic compound chosen from a group comprising at least one saturated brominated aromatic compound, at least a brominated compound having an ethylenically unsaturated aliphatic structure in which the bromine is linked to the unsaturated carbon atoms, at least one brominated aliphatic compound in which the bromine is linked to the unsaturated carbon atoms, and at least one brominated aliphatic compound in which the bromine is linked to a carbon atom which is itself linked to a carbon atom which has no available proton, said second brominated organic compound being more heat stable and less volatile than the first brominated organic compound. |
