Compounds of formula (I):n n in which: nAr represents a phenyl group having at least one substituent selected from nitro, C₁-C₄ haloalkyl, C₁-C₄ haloalkoxy and cyano groups and halogen atoms; nR represents a C₁-C₁₆ alkyl group, a C₃-C₆ cycloalkyl group, a C₁-C₄ alkyl group having a C₃-C₆ cycloalkyl substituent, a C₂-C₄ alkenyl group, a cinnamyl group or a C₁-C₁₆ alkyl group having at least one substituent selected from hydroxy, C₁-C₄ alkoxy and C₁-C₄ alkylthio groups; nR¹ represents a hydrogen atom or a C₁-C₃ alkyl group; nR 2a and R 2b are the same or different and each represents an unsubstituted phenyl group or a substituted phenyl group having at least one substituent selected from C₁-C₄ alkyl, C₁-C₄ alkoxy and C₁-C₄ haloalkyl groups and halogen atoms; none of R³ and R⁴ represents a methyl group and the other represents an amino group; and n n is an integer from 1 to 3; nThese compounds have a variety of valuable activities, including antihypertensive and Ca⁺⁺-blocking activities, leading to their use for the treatment of circulatory and coronary disorders. They may be prepared by condensation of appropriate substituted benzylideneacetoacetic acid esters with appropriate amidinoacetic acid esters. |
