titleOfInvention | SOLUTION METHOD FOR PRODUCING ALPHA OLEFIN POLYMERS. |
abstract | A solution polymerization process and catalyst therefor for preparing high molecular weight alpha-olefin polymers, including ethylene homopolymers and copolymers of ethylene and C3-C12 alpha-olephins. The process is carried out under solution polymerization conditions at 105-320°C. The catalyst is obtained from titanium tetrahalides, vanadium oxytrihalides and organoaluminum compounds, in which a mixture of the catalyst components undergoes heat treatment at 180-250°C and is subsequently cooled to a temperature of less than 150°C. Vanadium oxytrihalide is then added. The catalyst solution produced is activated with an aluminum compound. The catalyst exhibits good activity, showing higher activity than catalysts to which the vanadium oxytrihalide is not added or is added at temperatures above 150°C. |
