Gene expression can be modulated by the use of compositions capable of mimicking RNA. We select a part of RNA encoded by the gene whose expression is to be modulated, which is capable of interacting with one or more proteins. Next, an oligonucleotide or oligonucleotide analog is prepared so that it mimics part of the RNA. Next, cells containing the gene are brought into contact with the oligonucleotide or an oligonucleotide analog in order to effect the modulation. The invention also relates to therapeutic compositions and methods intended in particular for the treatment of human immunodeficiency. |
