abstract |
Thermosetting powder coating composition according to the subject of the present invention comprising as a binder a mixture of co-reacting particles of a carboxylic acid functional polyester component and a treatment agent having groups reacting to the groups of carboxylic acid, characterized in that the carboxylic acid-functional component comprises a semi-crystalline polyester having an acidity value between 10 and 70 mg KOH / g and a hydroxy value of not more than 11 mg KOH / g. The semi-crystalline polyester generally has one or more Tg value (s) lower than 55 ° C, an exact melting point between 50 ° and 200 ° C and, preferably, an average molecular weight of at least minus 1600. If desired, the composition may include an amorphous polyester and the treating agent may be, for example, an epoxy resin or a bis (beta-hydroxyalkylamide). The coating compositions which are the subject of the invention harden more quickly than in the absence of semi-crystalline polyesters and the thermosetting coatings prepared from them have an improved appearance and mechanical properties (in particular flexibility). |
