METHOD AND DEVICE FOR IONTOPHORETIC ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICINES. |
abstract |
An iontophoretic device, comprising a two-layer active electrode element (20), is described. The active element is composed of a hydrogel layer (21) in contact with the epidermis and an overlapping carrier layer (22). The carrier layer contains a dispersed or dissolved active agent. The active electrode element maintains the active agent in a stable form and allows transport of the active agent to the host. An iontophoretic device comprising a single layer active electrode element is also described. The single layer consists of a hydrogel in its original form or in a practically dry form which can be hydrated before use. The hydrogel in contact with the epidermis forming part of the active two-layer electrode element is preferably adhesive. |
