A negative effect coating material, which can be developed in water, electrophoretically precipitated and hardened by light, contains (A) 35 to 85% by weight of at least one ethylene unsaturated polymer, (B ) 0 to 60% by weight of at least one ethylene unsaturated monomer, (C) 1 to 10% by weight of photochemical initiator, (D) 0 to 10% by weight of adjuvants and treatment substances and (E) optionally an organic solvent, dispersed in water. The sum of the weight percentages of components A, B and C equals 100%. Said material is characterized by the fact that the polymer A has a double bond equivalent of 1500 to 10000 and a content of groups forming ions or cations of 0.5 to 5.0 milliequivalents/g and is based on a copolymerizate of branched acrylate which has been produced using 5 to 30% by weight, based on the weight of the monomers used, of at least one monomer with at least two double bonds per polymerizable ethylene unsaturated molecule and a lower average molecular weight at 400. |
