abstract Methods and compositions for treating malignant tumors with which a protein tyrosine kinase is associated. Malignant tumors can be treated using a gene transfer vehicle capable of infecting malignant cells, so that the gene transfer vehicle carries a DNA structure comprising a DNA sequence encoding a tyrosine phosphatase protein (PTPase). Appropriate DNA sequences include those encoding wild-type or truncated PTPases at their carboxyl terminus.
