A process for the direct silylation of the terminal, non-reducing glucose unit of an oligosaccharide containing at least three repeating glucose units and having an aglycone unit at the reducing end thereof, the aglycone being selected from nitrophenyl, 2-chloro-4-nitrophenyl, 4-methylumbeliferone, luciferin and chromogenic phenols, which comprises:n (a) forming a solution of the oligosaccharide in a solvent: (b) reacting the oligosaccharide with a silylating protective agent in the presence of a base; and (c) recovering a monosilylated oligosaccharide derivative from the reaction mixture is disclosed. |
