titleOfInvention | Catalyst system for olefin oxidation to carbonyl products |
abstract | This invention provides reaction mixtures useful for oxidizing olefins to obtain carbonyl proudies, said mixtures comprising an olefin and an aqueous catalytic solution having a palladium-based catalyst, a polyoxacid or a polyoxoanion oxidant comprising vanadium and the dissolved olefin. The invention also relates to methods for oxidizing olefins in order to produce carbonyl products by mixing an olefin with an aqueous catalytic solution. This invention further provides methods of oxidizing olefins to obtain carbonylated products using oxygen, comprising mixing an olefin with an aqueous catalytic solution, followed by mixing the oxygen with the aqueous catalytic solution. In certain reaction mixtures and in related processes relating to the present invention, the concentration of olefin dissolved in the aqueous catalytic solution ensures that its rate of oxidation is not limited by its rate of diffusion into the aqueous solution. In other reaction mixtures and in related processes forming part of this invention, the concentration of dissolved olefin present in the aqueous catalytic solution causes its oxidation rate to be proportional to the concentration of the catalyst to be palladium base. In other processes of this invention, the olefin is mixed with the aqueous catalytic solution under mixing conditions allowing to obtain an oxidation rate of the olefin equal to at least 1 (millimole of olefin per liter of solution) per second. In other processes of this invention, the dioxygen is mixed with a reduced aqueous solution of vanadium-polyoxoanion under mixing conditions allowing to obtain a dioxygen reaction rate equal to at least 1 (millimole of dioxygen per liter of solution ) per second. In other reaction mixtures and related processes, the aqueous solution is essentially free |
