titleOfInvention | Process and apparatus for cleaning particulate solids |
abstract | Removal or cleaning of particulate solid contaminants. The method comprises at least two successive cleaning areas (A, B), each of which comprises two stages. In the initial step (2, 12), the contaminated solids are treated with a solvent which dissolves the contaminants in the form of slurry. In the next step (7, 17), the slurry is centrifuged to separate the solids from the solvent containing dissolved contaminants (3). The overall flow pattern is designed so that fresh solvent (11) is introduced into the last cleaning area (B), and directs the separated solvent containing dissolved contaminants (3) from the last cleaning area (B). to the cleaning area immediately preceding it, and repeat the sequence from the initial cleaning area (A). In this way, the flow of solvent from one cleaning area to another is countercurrent to the flow of contaminated solids in each of the cleaning areas, while the flow of solvent and contaminated solids is co-current. The present invention offers greater cleaning efficiency for a given volume of solvent. |
