titleOfInvention INDICATOR SUBSTANCE OF A FLUORESCENT OPTICAL MEASURING ARRANGEMENT FOR MEASURING THE PH VALUE OF A SAMPLE AND OPTICAL SENSOR WITH SUCH AN INDICATOR SUBSTANCE.
abstract An indicator for an optical luminescence measuring installation serving for the continuous and reversible measurement of the pH of a sample within a considered measurement range (M), the luminescence decay time tau of which depends on the pH of the sample, has the following properties. The pKs of the indicator present in the form of an acid or a base is located, in the fundamental electronic state (S0) thereof, in the measurement range considered. The base protonation rate kp or the acid kdp deprotonation rate in the excited state (S1, X) of the indicator is less than the decay rate kA of the excited state, and the times tauS and tauB luminescence decay of the acidic forms (AH *, BH + *) and basic forms (A- *, B *) of the indicator are different. If the pKs * of the indicator in the excited electronic state (S1, X) is located in the measurement range considered, the rate of protonation kp of the base or the rate of deprotonation kdp of the acid in the excited (S1, X) of the indicator is greater than the decay rate kA of the excited state.
