titleOfInvention MONITORING DEVICE AND METHOD FOR PHOTOPLETHYSMOGRAPHIC MEASUREMENT OF THE PULSE FREQUENCY.
abstract The invention relates to a pulse rate analysis monitor, which is provided with an optical sensor and which is used to measure by photoplethysmography the blood circulation of a subject, for example a part of the body of a subject. human or animal. This monitor includes a light source, such as preferably a light emitting diode for infrared light, an optical fiber unit, a sensor unit for detecting alternating voltage or an alternating current component of a PPG signal produced, for determining the subject's heart rate, an electronic amplification unit and a presentation unit, such as an oscilloscope for a display unit. This device also includes a device for separating from the detected PPG signal a signal component which indicates the subject's respiratory rate. The PPG signal is coupled to a filter, such as preferably a digital filter, which adjusts the limit frequencies and the degree of amplification. The digital filter can be a component of a microprocessor capable of eliminating disturbances, such as disturbances emanating from a 50 Hz parasitic light, in addition to separating the signals relating to the subject's heart and respiratory rate. The invention also relates to a method for carrying out such measurements by photoplethysmography.
