abstract 14 alpha ,16 alpha -ethano- and 14 alpha ,16 alpha -etheno-oestratrienes of the general formula I <IMAGE> in which A-B is a C-C single or C-C double bond, R1 is a hydrogen atom, a methyl or acyl group with 1 - 12 carbon atoms and X is oxygen or <IMAGE> or <IMAGE> , where R2 is a hydrogen atom or an acyl group with 1 - 12 carbon atoms, and a process for the preparation thereof are described. The compounds are very strong oestrogens and are suitable for the preparation of pharmaceutical compositions.
