abstract An apparatus and method are described for delignifying and bleaching a lignocellulosic pulp without using elemental chlorine. The bleaching reactor is a horizontal tank comprising a central rotary shaft which preferably comprises blades, threads of tapped and folded screws or a spiral thread, for dispersing and advancing the particles of dough according to an ideal flow while putting in contact and by mixing the pulp particles with a gaseous bleaching agent such as ozone allowing their substantially homogeneous bleaching.
