abstract | The invention relates to methods and compositions for attenuating xerostomia. The compositions are formulated from an extract of Yerba Santa and a sweetener and can be in the form of an aqueous solution, of gum or of lozenge. The compositions may further contain a stimulating compound effective for stimulating the secretion of the salivary glands, for example, citric acid, ascorbic acid or both. The compositions may also include preservatives, flavoring agents, colorants, emulsifiers or the like. The compositions based on Yerba Santa object of the invention are administered orally to a patient to relieve symptoms of dry mouth. |
