Oligonucleotides and oligonucleotide analogues which may have a non-coding interaction with the messenger RNA of the papilloma virus. Such oligonucleotides or oligonucleotide analogs can be used for diagnosis and therapy as well as for research purposes. According to preferred embodiments, the oligonucleotide or oligonucleotide analog is hybridizable with messenger RNA from a papilloma virus, can inhibit RNA function, and is therefore useful in the therapy of infections caused by a such papilloma virus. According to a preferred embodiment, parts of the papilloma virus are targeted for a non-coding attack. It is therefore possible to obtain the preferable oligonucleotides, that is to say those which hybridize with the messenger RNAs E2, E1, E7, or E6-7. |
