abstract Phenylethanolaminotetralins of formula (I) <IMAGE> in which X represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a (C1-C4) alkyl group or a trifluoromethyl group, A represents a bond between the group -COOR and the nucleus tetralinic, a (C1-C4) alkylene group or a (C2-C4) alkenylene group, and R is a hydrogen atom or a (C1-C4) alkyl group, and their salts, are especially prepared by reaction of a epoxide of formula (IIa) <IMAGE> with a tetralin of formula (III) <IMAGE> in which A is as defined above and R 'is a (C1-C4) alkyl group, optionally followed by basic hydrolysis for obtain the compounds (I) where R is hydrogen. The new compounds have very interesting properties as intestinal antidepressants and spasmolytics. The new intermediates of formula (III) are also claimed.
