Antiviral agent |
abstract |
A sulfated alkyl oligosaccharide prepared by substituting the hydroxyl group at the 1-position of the terminal sugar of an oligosaccharide with an alkyl group and sulfating at least 14.3 % of the remaining hydroxyl groups of the sugar moiety; a physiologically acceptable salt thereof; and an antiviral agent containing the same as the active ingredient. This agent has a significantly reduced toxicity and an antiviral activity against a wide variety of DNA and RNA viruses irrespectively of whether the virus has an envelope or not and a particularly excellent antiviral activity against AIDS virus. |
