| abstract |
A process for the separation of ethyl tert-butyl ether from mixtures which it forms with ethanol is described. This process comprises two distillation steps, the first being carried out at a pressure p1 greater than or equal to 1 bar, the second at a pressure p2 lower than p1 with a value Δp of 0.5 to 12 bars, p2 then being 0 , 5 to 10 bars. The second column distillate is partly returned as reflux to the head of the second column and partly recycled to the head of the first column. The purified ETBE is collected at the bottom of the first column and the purified ethanol is collected at the bottom of the second column. This separation process can be integrated into an ETBE production unit comprising etherification with ethanol of a C4 cut of steam cracking or catalytic cracking.
