A treatment for cardiovascular disorders in a mammal has been developed, comprising administering to said mammal an effective amount of a compound of the formula: [RN (H) N (NO) O-] yX, in which R represents lower alkyl , aryl, arylalkyl, or cycloalkyl, any of the groups R can be optionally replaced by one to three substituents selected from the group consisting of: halo, hydroxyl, alkoxy, amino, amido, carbonyl, carboxyl, or nitro, and in which X represents a biologically acceptable cation, a biologically acceptable metal center, or a biologically acceptable organic group chosen from lower alkyl, acyl or amido, and is between 1 and 3 depending on the valence of X. We have also developed pharmaceutical compositions containing the compounds. |
