Plant fatty acid synthases |
abstract |
This invention relates to compositions and methods relating to beta-ketoacyl-ACP synthase, hereinafter referred to as "synthase". Methods and compositions of amino acid and nucleic acid sequences relating to synthase or biologically active synthases of plants are also of interest. In particular, synthase protein preparations which have relatively high production (specific activity) are of interest in a variety of applications, in vitro and in vivo. In particular, protein preparations having synthase I and / or synthase II activities are also part of the invention. A distinction is made among synthase activities by means of preferential activity towards longer and shorter acyl-ACPs. Protein preparations having preferential activity towards acyl-ACPs of shorter chain length are synthase type I. Synthases having preferential activity towards acyl-ACPs of longer chain length are synthases II. Synthases obtainable from Ricinus communis are of particular interest. |
