titleOfInvention | A novel procedure for the detection of pathogens using dna probes |
abstract | New rapid, multiple-sample, non-radioactive methods for detecting pathogens, such as the Plasmodium falciparum parasite, in body fluids, including human blood samples. Detection is based on the use of parasite-specific DNA probes and on sandwich hybridization techniques using microfiltration plates. The high sensitivity and specificity of these assays and the ease with which they can be performed allow them to be used for routine analyzes of a large number of blood samples and other colored tissues of vertebrates and invertebrates. These assays can be used in particular to detect the presence of P. falciparum. The procedure described is flexible and can be applied in a wide variety of DNA detection analyzes using non-radioactive DNA probes. For the detection of P. falciparum, said invention also relates to new DNA fragments and hybridization probes based on these fragments. Said invention also relates to a diagnostic kit implementing these new methods. |
