abstract | The carbohydrate substances are separated or distinguished by means of a method which consists in labeling the carbohydrate substances with a labeling reagent comprising a ring structure of fluorescent naphthalene having as a substituent a reactive group capable of reacting with a reducing sugar in order to s 'to bind thereto, and also having at least one substituent group capable of carrying a charge but which does not react with the reducing sugars and does not extinguish the fluorescence of the labeling reagent; applying the marked substances to an electrophoretic gel; and running the gel to cause differential migration of the various substances. Preferred labeling reagents are aminonaphthalinsulfonic acids having one, two, or three sulfonic acid groups, including 8-aminonaphthalene-1, 3, 6, -trisulfonic acid (ANTS), and 1-amino acid 4-naphthalene sulfonic acid (ANSA). |
